Leninists always stated that "finance capitalism" was the last phase of the capitalist system, whereby the processes of production were subordinated to money profits in a financial system.

On the surface, one could argue that this looks to be happening. Of course, you would have to ignore the fact that most powerful financial force that centrally commands monetary and interest rate policy is the quasi-governmental, anti-free market Federal reserve Central Banking system. That's sort of a hard thing to miss.

This one is sure to offend the dozen or so people that actually understand what the Fed does and still support it.

This is just a little blend of history with the great Orwell dystopian masterpiece Nineteen Eighty-Four. Hoover seemed to fit right in both worlds, so we made an INGSOC propaganda poster that looks as if it were wheat-pasted on the side of some building generations ago. Torn, distorted, and distressed through the natural decay of time, the paper matches the harshness of Hoover's portrait.

As Time magazine put it in 1975:

"The fact that such a man could acquire and keep that kind of power raises disturbing questions not merely about the role of a national police in a democracy, but also about the political system that tolerated him for so long." (Time article .)

The original was actually a woodcut showing a snake severed into eighths, with each segment labeled with the initial of a British American colony or region. The cartoon appeared along with Franklin's editorial about the "disunited state" of the colonies, and helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity.

During that era, there was a superstition that a snake which had been cut into pieces would come back to life if the pieces were put together before sunset.

We at LibertyManiacs.com have been sporting our line of shirts and products with the original image, but wanted to modernize it to make it relevant to today's patriots. That's why we did a complete redraw of Franklin's Eastern Rattler, chopped him into 50 different sections, and labeled each state. The Civil flag was designed in 1799 by Oliver Wolcott Jr. the Secretary of the Treasury under John Adams. Wolcott's proposal featured: An ensign, consisting of sixteen alternating red and white stripes representing the number of states that had joined the Union by 1799; and the Union, represented by the small rectangle in the upper left corner, with its Arms (an Eagle) of the United States in dark blue on a white field.

Today the civilian flag is largely lost to history, but remains a symbol to patriots and liberty lovers alike as a symbol that every man and woman is sovereign, having inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

However, for this poster, the most important of the 1984 propaganda memorabilia, we wanted to keep things very vintage and true to the story as much as possible.

We decided to paint a new image of Big Brother in menacing fashion. We took artistic license in making the Big Brother head without the characteristic mustache that Orwell describes in the book, but tried create instead an almost godlike, omniscient face floating through the dark.

In the novel, it isn't exactly clear if Big Brother is an actual person, or a sort of made up authority figurehead used to personify the INGSOC party. Because of this we attempted to give the face a surreal quality. As if the image was almost a composite of physical features the inner party tested and placed together for maximum paranoia.
